Paste Backfill Plant Installed in Northern Idaho
CMQ Engineering Delivers a Custom Paste Backfill Plant for a Major Mining Operation in Northern Idaho
Across the rugged mountains of northern Idaho, where some of America’s richest mineral deposits have supported mining for generations, reliable equipment is essential to keeping underground operations productive. In this demanding environment, every system must perform consistently, every shift, every day.
To help support one of the region’s major underground mining operations, CMQ Engineering designed and supplied a custom paste backfill plant engineered specifically for the customer’s production requirements. The project demonstrates CMQ Engineering’s ability to deliver complete material handling and batching systems for some of the most demanding industrial applications in North America. While every mining operation presents unique challenges, one principle remains the same: dependable equipment keeps production moving.
A Complete Engineered System
Rather than supplying individual pieces of equipment, CMQ Engineering developed an integrated paste backfill solution designed to produce consistent, accurately blended paste for underground placement. The system incorporates a carefully engineered material flow process beginning with an aggregate weigh hopper and incline conveyor that delivers precisely measured aggregate into a high-performance CMQ Engineering twin shaft mixer.
Cement is stored in a CMQ Engineering chisel-nose silo, where the company’s first-in, first-out design helps promote dependable material flow while minimizing the potential for material hang-up. After passing through a dedicated weigh hopper, the cement is conveyed by screw conveyor into the twin shaft mixer, where all ingredients are blended into a homogeneous paste before being discharged directly into the mine’s backfill pipeline. Every component works together as one coordinated production system, delivering the consistency and reliability required for continuous underground mining operations.
Twin Shaft Mixing Designed for Demanding Applications
Producing quality paste backfill requires more than simply combining materials. The paste must remain consistent from batch to batch while achieving the strength, pumpability, and uniformity necessary for reliable underground placement. At the heart of this Idaho installation is a CMQ Engineering twin shaft mixer designed to provide intensive, three-dimensional mixing action. The mixer rapidly distributes cement throughout the material, producing a homogeneous paste capable of supporting demanding mining operations. The same engineering principles that have made twin shaft mixers popular in high-production concrete batch plants also make them an ideal solution for paste backfill applications where consistency and reliability are critical.
Engineering Beyond the Equipment
Every mine presents unique operating conditions. Material characteristics, production targets, site layouts, and process requirements vary from project to project. For this reason, CMQ Engineering approaches every paste backfill project as a custom engineering solution rather than an off-the-shelf equipment package.
From plant design through fabrication and project execution, CMQ Engineering works closely with project stakeholders to help ensure every major system is integrated into a cohesive, reliable operation. Throughout installation and commissioning, CMQ personnel provide technical expertise and on-site support to assist with system integration, startup, performance verification, and operator training, helping the customer move confidently from construction into production.
That collaborative approach helps deliver a plant that is not only engineered to perform — but engineered to succeed within the customer’s overall mining process.
Supporting Mining Throughout Idaho and the Western United States
Idaho has long been recognized as one of America’s leading mining regions, with active operations throughout the northern portion of the state and the historic Silver Valley. Mining companies across communities including Coeur d’Alene, Kellogg, Wallace, Osburn, Smelterville, Pinehurst, and Mullan, as well as throughout Shoshone County, continue to play an important role in the region’s economy.
CMQ Engineering is proud to support mining operations throughout Idaho and across the western United States, including states like Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. Whether supplying complete paste backfill plants, industrial batching systems, material handling equipment, or high-performance twin shaft mixers, CMQ Engineering delivers engineered solutions designed for reliability in demanding industrial environments.
Engineering Expertise That Extends Beyond Mining
Many of the technologies incorporated into this Idaho paste backfill plant share common engineering principles with modern concrete batch plants:
- Precision weighing systems.
- High-capacity material handling.
- Twin shaft mixing technology.
- Cement storage and discharge systems.
- Integrated plant controls.
These same capabilities have made CMQ Engineering a trusted manufacturer of concrete batch plants, aggregate handling systems, and industrial batching equipment for customers around the world.
By applying decades of experience in precision batching and material handling, CMQ Engineering delivers mining systems that are engineered with the same attention to accuracy, efficiency, and long-term reliability.
Engineered to Keep Production Moving
Every hour of downtime affects production. Every interruption impacts profitability. That’s why CMQ Engineering designs complete systems — not simply machines.
From custom plant engineering and precision material handling to advanced mixing technology and field support during installation and commissioning, our goal is to help customers build reliable operations that perform for decades. Whether your project involves a new paste backfill plant, an industrial batching system, or a high-capacity concrete plant, CMQ Engineering has the engineering experience to deliver a solution designed around your operation.
